The Worldstone is a gigantic stone, created by the archangel Inarius when he created the world of Sanctuary. The Worldstone keeps the balance of Sanctuary, weakening the powers of both Heaven and Hell in the mortal plane. It is hidden in a room inside of Mount Arreat, protected by the three Ancient Ones. Baal, one of the Prime Evils, sought to corrupt it with evil, in order to turn Sanctuary into a permanent outpost of Hell, which would turn the tides of their conflict against Heaven.
